Culinary Digest: The Northall, Corinthia Hotel, London

What the experts say

Eleanor Morgan, Contributing Food Editor, The Guardian: For £25 (for three set courses), you can enjoy a fantastic lunch at the Northall restaurant in the grand Corinthia Hotel (10 Northumberland Avenue, 020-7321 3100, The room is a show-stopper: ceilings high, tables immaculately dressed and the best-of-British food affordably luxurious.

What the diners say

Tripadvisor user IANandARI: We were very impressed by this restaurant. The (Corinthia) hotel itself is extremely smart as is the restaurant with its Corinthian columns and excellent design style. It is modern and yet mixes in well with an older building.

We were made to feel extremely welcome both by the staff on the restaurant reception desk and all waiting staff. We had indicated when booking that we needed to go to the theatre later and this had been carefully noted and mentioned on our arrival. We took the set menu at £28 for three courses including a glass of champagne. The food, consisting of smoked duck, cod and salmon, pork fillet, roast venison and cheese to follow was nothing short of excellent. The wine list is extensive but there is much to be found at reasonable prices. For a restaurant of this style £24 for a Gran Sasso D’Abruzzo is good value bearing in mind that this is in a very high-end London hotel.

It is a wonderful place to have dinner before the theatre or afterwards. For that matter if you are entertaining business clients it would be very impressive. We recommend it wholeheartedly

Luxury Travel Beat’s verdict

We visited The Northall Corinthia on a relaxed Sunday evening for dinner. These are the courses we elected from a very well-thought through menu built on English classics and locally-sourced ingredients:

Carpaccio of Tuna, Ginger and Soya with Coriander Cress Salad

Roast Hake, Butternut Squash Risotto and Trealy Farm Chorizo Sausage

Banana and Toffee Cheesecake, Chocolate Malt Ice Cream

Last word: The pictures speak for themselves. There’s nothing I can say that will do justice to the quality of food served here and the very attentive service that is par for the course at The Northall. Definitely one to visit if you are in London for the Olympics.
