KISS FM’s Charlie Hedges is the youngest female breakfast DJ in the UK and is one of the most listened-to voices in the UK, broadcasting to over 4 million people every week. Outside of the KISS studio, Charlie has also been busy making a name for herself as a club DJ, playing what she calls ‘Electro-House with a twist’ at her first residency at Space, Ibiza this summer. She is also an ambassador for the Prince’s Trust.
Hi Charlie, welcome to Luxury Travel Beat’s Tripping with segment. What are you up to at the moment?
Wow, lots going on at the minute! I’m back and forth from Ibiza deejaying for the season at Space (a club) with Carl Cox, playing some boat parties out there too and playing at The Sands (a beach bar) in Ibiza, plus working and filming alongside a crew called Lucky Life TV. My first mix CD of electro house has just gone on sale online and in stores with Pukka Up records. I’ve also just been given my own show on Kiss FM to air on Sunday mornings between two and three in the morning. Also… I’ve just had confirmation that I will be playing a set at the ADE Amsterdam music festival alongside Carl Cox and Fatboy slim on October 17th.
That’s quite a handful! You were born in Essex but currently work in London. With the Olympics here, what are the must-do things you would recommend to a first-time visitor to Londo
You have to go to Victoria park, where they have loads of huge screens you can chill and watch the Olympics with your mates on for free. They also have bars, pop-up restaurants and stalls, a massive zip line and an observation wheel to go on too! It’s a wicked day out.
Being a DJ – what would you say would be the soundtrack to the following experiences in London:
a) Visiting The Big Ben, Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey?
b) The London Eye and The Shard (when it opens next year)?
c) Shopping on Oxford Street?
What things can you absolutely not leave home without when travelling?
A pair of straighteners, dry shampoo, music, and headphones to DJ with.
What is your best holiday memory?
Going to Ibiza for the first time for my 21st bday with 20 of my mates, I’ve been back every year since!!
Ibiza. I think I’m beginning to see a trend here. How about the worst?
Worst is the feeling you get when you have to leave Ibiza 😦
Favourite city in the world?
London, without a doubt. I’ve been to some cool places but I still love coming home
The Savoy in Egypt. It’s like no other I’ve ever seen, has huge rooms and I justfelt like a queen for the weekend. It was crazy
Who is the most memorable person you have met in the course of your travels?
Carl Cox when I met him for the first time. He made me realise even more so how much I want a career in deejaying, he’s very inspirational
Lastly, dream trip?
Ibiza to DJ, Miami to DJ, Vegas, Thailand then back to Ibiza.
