Location: On Piccadilly, the fiercely pulsating heart of London, although The Atheneum is on the quieter end of the street. Within spitting distance of Green Park (some rooms have a view of it), a stone’s throw away from Knightsbridge and its myriad of shopping opportunities, not too far from Hyde Park, a short walk to Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, Marble Arch and Oxford Circus, The West End…my point is this is a hotel that’s very central. Not as central as say The Hotel Cafe Royal, mind, but central nonetheless.
Rooms: The Athenaeum is a boutique hotel, and as such trends towards the relatively smaller side – at least when you take other London hotels into consideration. Nevertheless, at 134 rooms it is on the bigger side of boutique hotels. These are apportioned into superior, deluxe and park view rooms as well as Mayfair suites, Green Park suites and the penthouse suite.
Other facitlities: A restaurant helmed by the Michelin-starred Galvin brothers, a bar and a REN spa, alongside standard 5-star offerings such as complimentary wifi and room-service. Private residences are available for those who prefer a more homely holiday experience.
The Lowdown: Rates per night at The Athenaeum start from £249 a night and can be booked here.
