Hotel Review: Hotel Arts Barcelona

This review has been a long time coming but it’s finally here, the very embodiment of the Swedish proverb he who waits for something good never waits too long. Now let’s get right down to it!

Hotel Arts Barcelona, Pool

Location: I must admit I was completely oblivious to the existence of this Ritz-Carlton prior to my visit to Barcelona, despite it being one of city’s original luxury hotels. Overlooking the Mediterranean on the Port Olimpic area of the city, its location is a double-edged sword: close to the beach and a seafront bustling with beach-style restaurants, night-clubs, lovers strolling hand-in-hand, and agile skate-boarders, but not within easy walking distance of the city center and all of the attractions Barcelona is famed for. This is off course a blessing and a curse; away from the tourist hoardes in La Rambla but far enough from the cultural epicenter that one is unable to explore by rambling along without a map and a plan. The views from the hotel rooms – I could see the Sagrada La Familia from mine – somewhat make up for this though.

Rooms: This is a huge hotel towering 44 floors above the sea in the tallest building in Barcelona. It should therefore not come as a surprise to anyone that the hotel boasts 483, which are partitioned into deluxe rooms, suites and penthouse apartments.

Amenities: A brand-new infinity pool on the terrace of the hotel’s second floor, with a view of Frank Gehry’s conspicuous fish sculpture, a children’s pool, a well-equipped gym, a spa and five restaurants, including the two-star Michelin-restaurant Enoteca Paco Pérez and a bar. All other amenities usually offered in five-stars can also be found here, including parking and laundry services.

Standout feature: The panoramic views from the upper floors of the hotel, and the warm and impeccable professionalism and attention to detail and guests the hotel staff display.
