Unplugged: Sao Miguel, The Azores

Unplugged: As far away from Oxford Street/5th Avenue/Rue du Rivoli/Karl Johan/#InsertOwnBusyBroadwayHere as physically and/or mentally possible. Disconnected from the rat race. Free from a myriad of obligations – for a little while anyway. Back to nature, at one with nature. Today’s Unplugged: Sao Miguel island, The Azores. © Cynthia Wamwayi 2018

Hotel Review: The Dog and Fox Wimbledon

This pub-cum-hotel is situated within the tennis mecca of Wimbledon in Greater London, tantalizingly close to the All England Lawn Tennis Club, Wimbledon Common (a large park) and the shops on Wimbledon high street. It has a very English village-y feel – despite being only 15 minutes away from London’s bustling Waterloo station by train – and is likely to be a hit among those who like their hotel and travel experiences firmly betwixt a venn diagram of authentic and reasonably priced.

Hotel Review: Daios Cove Luxury Resort and Villas, Crete, Greece

Greece was the locus of my first ever holiday as an adult and as such will always hold a special place in my heart. Back then I visited the island of Karpathos and proceeded to fall so head over heels in love with the Greek Islands that I now go back once every three years or so. This particular hotel review is from my last trip to the north-eastern part of the island of Crete, specifically in Vathi near the village of Agios Nikolaos and the leper colony island of Spinalonga.

Hotel Review: Renaissance Paris Republique

I’m going to level with you and tell you right off the bat that this is not the gold standard of locations in Paris. The hotel website places it in Le Marais but that is perhaps a good 20 to 25 minute walk away. The neighbourhood has a very edgy, eclectic feel, which has its charms if you prefer your travel experiences to be as authentic as possible in a popular tourist destination. If I had to rate its proximity to the attractions people travel to Paris for I’d give it a solid 5 out of ten. It is however very close to the Place de la Republique metro station, and the Gare du Nord train station is not too far away either.
